Now in the 2020 Era, artists like KIL RIPKIN & JAH FREEDOM, FREDDY RAY, SKYBLEW, Mellow Music Producer/MC Duo MARLOWE, and SPACE MAN JONES & THE MOTHERSHIPS are providing soul lifting Boom Bap from the home of the Tarheels. Another Emcee who has kept our Attention in a vice grip for the past 2 years at WVCC Radio is Grown Man Hip Hop provider, TRE DOT THE BOSS. On his latest DJ Glibstylez mixed sampler, “TRILOGY OF DOT”, the grey bearded Soul Bar belcher gives you several tastes of not only his 3 Upcoming EP’s, but also of the substance and flavor that has kept him on contstant rotation on Indie Hip Hop Stations around the map.

The 30 minute sampler blended expertly by Native North Carolinian who now calls Daphne, Alabama home, The Soul Keeper, DJ GLIBSTYLEZ, is a flawless half hour vibe. Featuring choice cuts from TRE-DOT’s upcoming Triple EP Release, WHEN LOVE MAKES A DIFFERENCE, BLOOD + SWEAT & TEARS, and the RnB Fusion ep titled, SOUL TRE, TRILOGY OF DOT is a banger from end to end, making the listener eager to hear the complete works. The production on each joint gives you that classic 90s College Hip Hop Vibe which could be apprecaited by either sex and was known to get dance floors jumping. Combined with TRE DOT’s mature lyrical content, you have a number of solid bops that all ages can get down with. The older generation will find a welcomed nostalgia and sence of familiarity with the vibe and subject matter TRE delivers masterfully with a locious deep voice, as thick as his white beard. The younger audience will extract much needed wisdom if they take the time to listen without ageism bias.
As the 1st snippet on the mixer mentions, TRE DOT creates ammunition for party rocking DJ’s. Press play and you will not be able to stop your chin from nodding and your feet from tapping. The ELIAH SOUL produced bops, including BOOMBAP, THAT’S MY SHIT, and the Neo Soul inspired EP’s Title Track SOULTRE, are instant favorites. The Silky Milk Chocolate Vocals ELIAH adds to each hook make these cuts instant Radio rotation nominees and guarenteed panty soakers. Part of TRE DOT’s magic is that he makes music for both sexes effortlessly. Like the 2nd free sample on the platter implies, TRE makes this look and sound TOO EASY.
Then we are reacquainted with some of our favorite smooth underground bangers of the last 2 years which originally made us fans of TRE DOT. LOVE STORY produced by DAVID ELLIOT hits me like a wiff of PineSol, an instant nostalgic scent that reminds me of Saturday’s cleaning the crib. I still remember the week I worked on the write up for this single and how I spent the week playing this song to my Fiance, organically making it one of her favorite songs of 2024. BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS is a hard a head nodder that got countless spins on our Thursday Night “Cyph Lyfe Live” video mix show that would stream on TWITCH weekly. The Silver Fox delivers hard punchlines mixed with vlunerable introspective bars effectively and effortlessly. This could be heard on ONLY YOU, another joint that stayed on constant rotation on WVCC RADIO last year. FAMILY TIME is a homage to the parents and village that helped raise TRE to the Man and Mentor that he is today. IN MY SLEEP is my personal favorite cut off the 3 EP Sampler. I thought it couldnt get bigger than the SOUL TRE joints, but the last cut on the EP Sampler is gut wrenching telling about how he lost his Father, and all the wisdom and life lesson that his Father blessed him with before transitioning.
DJ GLIBSTYLEZ does what he is known for. Perfect blends, master rewinds to give the tracks some palpable excitement, and sound effects that always let you know what parts of the tunes personally kicked GLIBS in the booboo. If the sampler is this perfect, I personally cannot wait to hear the whole Triple EP Release. With SKII SHARP, TIP BEATS, and the Producer/Singer responsible for my favorite section of the project, and maybe my favorite in the whole series. This Mix Sample is the perfect length and vibe to make you a new fan if you have never heard TRE DOT before. And for those of us who have, this tape is definitly all the proof you need that you should keep a close eye on TRE-DOT for when his ambitious Triple EP Series drops.
